West Point Foundry Bed and Breakfast History Blog
Hello, history enthusiasts! I'm David, a retired pediatrician who found a new passion in historical preservation. It all started on a cold January morning in 2017 when I first laid eyes on an enchanting house built in 1811. Since that moment, my wife Marianne and I have dedicated ourselves to meticulously restoring this beautiful home, and we are excited to share our journey and the fascinating history we've uncovered along the way.
In the coming posts, I will delve into the rich history of the Kemble Family and the West Point Foundry, a site of immense historical significance. The Foundry played a crucial role in transforming America from an agrarian economy to an industrial powerhouse. One of its most notable contributions was the Parrott gun, a weapon instrumental in the North's victory during the Civil War.
Cold Spring, NY, was a place of innovation and influence. West Point Military Academy engineers were pivotal in the development of the Foundry, and New York luminaries gathered right here in this house. There's so much to explore and discover, and I can't wait to take you on this historical journey. Stay tuned for more stories and insights into the remarkable history of the West Point Foundry and this region.
